Ready or Not

“Ready or not, here I come!” That’s the phrase I would yell just before darting out from behind the tree in a fun game of hide-and-go-seek. Although my sister would hide in nearly the same place every time we played, it was an adventure going from place to place hoping to find her. As children, this game is a fun way to pass the time away while trying to outsmart the lucky seeker. If you think about it, life is a bit like that. You can’t hide forever. Burying your head below the sand hoping that things will magically work themselves out is not a way to live. Whether you’re ready or not life is coming. This question is, will you be ready? As we turn the page on another year gone by, are you ready for what lies ahead? Can you hear 2017 calling, “Ready or not, here I come!”

Have you spent the last several months hiding? Maybe you’ve avoided making the decision to change your circumstances out of fear. Is that you? Well, you’re in luck, because it’s time to step out of the shadow and into the light. It’s time for you to grow beyond your circumstances, and it starts with your choices. How much are your willing to change in order to get from point A (where you are today) to point B (where you want to be)? According the to “The 15 Laws of Growth” (John Maxwell), your growth depends on your choices. He talks about the relationship between change and growth.

  • Change yourself but not your environment – Growth will be slow and difficult

If staying in your current environment is your only option, then you have to recognize that your growth will be challenging. Many times, the people around you don’t want you to change. They’ve gotten accustomed to you being a certain way. If this is your route, be prepared to fight those perceptions.

  • Change your environment but not yourself – Growth will be slow and less difficult

If you’re in one place today, and move without spending the time to learn change will be difficult. It takes more than just changing your address to become a better you. Unfortunately, you will find this route to be difficult, because you’ve not changed.

  • Change your environment and yourself – Growth will be faster and more successful

If you want to maximize your growth, then consider making the leap to change your environment and yourself. Do an inventory. Are there people you need to leave behind in 2016? Make the hard changes. Learn from your experiences, grow from them and change yourself.
